The Tree of Life Foundation International, Inc. strives to ensure that the basic human need for food is fulfilled in our local and global communities. Building and supporting strong institutions that reach more people in the poorest communities is a cornerstone of our work.
870 million people around the world do not have access to a sufficient supply of nutritious and safe food. Hunger, defined by the USDA as “food insecurity”, is the lack of access at times to enough food for all household members.
According to “No Kid Hungry” more than 12 million children in the United States live in “food insecure” homes. That phrase may sound mild, but it means that those households don’t have enough food for every family member to lead a healthy life.
Locally supporting Lox Farms “Fresh RX”, a partnership between Lox farms and the Community Foundation. Fresh RX was Created so doctors can write prescriptions for fresh produce for patients who have been advised to change their diets as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. This program comes at no cost to the patients who include those suffering from cancer, heart patients and pediatric patients.
In Fondwa, Haiti over 4,000 pounds of food were donated and hand delivered to help Our Lady Fatima Orphanage. The mission was executed by one of our volunteers Nancy Hummel with William Dise of American Airlines, and Collier Harvest Foundation located in Naples, Florida.
For the Haiti Hurricane Relief mission with Friends of the Orphans, the foundation donated 1,000 pounds of food, and over 70 boxes of clothing and medicine. The food was donated by Stephen Popper of Kids Against Hunger.
World Harvest Missions touching the lives of the children at the New Life Children’s Home and to the remote areas where many others are suffering terribly from malnutrition and disease.
